Regional Airline Skywest has purchased ground support equipment including HHMPI download unit and STARS software. FDS visited Skywest in August 2009 to demonstrate the HHMPI and STARS as Skywest was keen to upgrade to more compatible and state of the art download equipment flexible to work with different flight recorder types.
Older devices such as the RSU and PI are now becoming unsupportable and outdated which meant Skywest requested hardware that interfaced with replay software on Windows based workstations. There was an interest in the ability to take HHMPI to the aircraft and download the flight data file ready for maintenance readouts or immediate examination from a aircraft flagged event.
The requirement to create reports from STARS was a valuable purchase for Skywest who will now have the ability to perform their own readouts and reduces the cost to send flight recorders away for regular annual readouts to a 3rd party company.
